How do you order gas bottles to be delivered to your house?

It is super easy to order refilled gas bottles delivered to your house.   You can order online, via their app or on the phone.  I always order via phone and if you phone from your landline then after the first time they will automatically know your address for your next order.  I don't speak much Spanish and I am able to understand the phone system, but here is summary:

  • phone 0800 1710
  • blah blah blah (recorded message in Spanish)
  • press 1 for 13kg bottle
  • blah blah blah (recorded message in Spanish)
  • press 1 if you are paying cash
  • press 2 if you are paying with debitcard
  • press 3 if you are paying with creditcard
  • someone will answer the phone and you will need to ask for 1 bottle of gas
  • they will ask for your address or read out your address if they know it
  • you need to confirm if your address is correct
  • they will confirm the price, payment type and tell you how long for delivery

done!

At the moment a 13kg gas bottle refill from RioGas is $500pesos.

If you don't already own a gas bottle then you will need to purchase one - you can do this via RioGas too.  I think gas bottles cost around $2,500 pesos and then you own it (i.e it is yours to use/refill as you like and then you can sell it when you don't need it anymore).

Are you looking for a great security alarm company?

When we first moved to Uruguay we got quotes from ADT, Prosegur and CES alarm companies to install an alarm system in our house.  CES was much cheaper than the other options and we could either buy the alarm sensor equipment or rent it from them.  We have been extremely happy with CES over the past 3.5 years.  They have saved us from being robbed twice when we had attempted break-ins, and went the extra mile to protect our house afterwards when we were on holiday and couldn't get back to the property (and they didn't charge us any extra).  If you are looking for a security company then I can highly recommend CES.

Are you looking for Korean food in Montevideo?

I can highly recommend a visit to Mygeong Ga Restaurant.  The decor and atmosphere is super casual, the service is good and the food is delicious. Dishes range from $300-$600 and they are huge (definitely for sharing). I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will be returning to this restaurant for sure.

Want to save money on your Antel bills?

If you are an Antel user you may have noticed a note on your paper bills that says that from the 1st September each paper bill sent to you will cost $29.  Antel is encouraging users to sign up to receive bills via email.  Sounds like a great idea to me, in my case this will save me $87 pesos per month not to mention the ecological goodwill.

Antel encourages the use of their website or phone services to change account details and receive all bills via email.  However, it turns out that for non-Spanish speakers you can't phone *123 to make the change to your account and if your Antel accounts were registered using your passport number (and not a UY cedula) you also can't change your account details via the Antel website, because it doesn't accept passport numbers.  I hope you are all able to change your account details via the phone or the web, because if you can't you will need to visit an Antel office :( and that is another entirely different blog post!

Good luck Antel users!

Looking for some great Uruguayan made products?

I would highly recommend you check out Mercado de los Artesanos.  Great locally crafted products at awesome prices!  I have found some great items at this market and much prefer it to HechoAca, in the shopping malls.
