Have you been to Tandory Restaurant?

We finally tried the much talked about Tandory Restaurant in Montevideo and we were very impressed.  The service was excellent, including the bilingual menu on a tablet with photos/detailed descriptions, and the personal assistance with our selections.  Between the four of us we tried the duck, lamb, fish, pasta and it was all very flavorsome and delicious.   For desert, I can recommend the dulce de leite volcano - yum!  Also, good coffee (including decaf!).  We got 25% off our bill with Itau and the total bill for four of us was $4600 (including all drinks).  We thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening and would go back on another special occasion.  Remember to book...it is a popular spot.

Does anyone else find these competitions in Uruguay ridiculous?

This picture shows the number of entry forms I received from one grocery shop (for my family of four).  Then I am supposed to fill in each form and return them to the store to slide them each into a tiny slot on a cardboard box to go into the draw to win - seriously!  Who has time for that?!  In this day and age of technology are you telling me that there is no easier way to run a competition than this antiquated system?  I think there is.  I do wonder how many people actually bother to fill these in and who (if anyone) actually wins the competitions... #onlyinuruguay  #mynanawouldlovethese  #1950isstillaliveinuruguay

Why are animation movies never screened in English in Uruguay?

It seems that if you want to watch animation movies in Uruguay you can only see them in Spanish. However, sometimes animation films are released in their origin English version for 1-2 weeks in select cinemas.  If you would like to watch Finding Dory in English then you can from this Friday at Shopping Montevideo and Punta Carretas Shopping only.  You can buy tickets online.  Now if only they could start showing movies during the day and at more kid friendly times instead of the only screening of 9.50pm!

Have you been waiting for a new restaurant review from Ask Annette?

If you are looking for a nice cafeteria style restaurant then I can recommend Hoy Te Quiero in Pocitos.  Wide range of sandwiches, tarts/quiches, deserts/bakery goods, brunch options and a couple of other salads/pastas on the menu.  They also offer gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian options.  Indoor and outdoor seating, good service and ok prices.  Give it a try next time you are in Pocitos!

Where can you find a good electronics fix-it shop?

Tucked in behind the small set of shops on Arocena (between Jamaica and Murillo streets) is a fab little electronics fix-it store.  You will see the store down the alley between the music studio and the key cutting store.  It is a small and local shop, as you can tell when you walk in and can hardly move because it is stacked floor to ceiling with various broken/repaired electronics.  Items I have taken to be fixed include; a remote controlled car, dehumidifier, iron, toaster, lamp.  The guy is very friendly and provides a quick service.  If he can't fix something he doesn't charge.  His prices are so cheap and his work so good that I keep going back with any broken electronics that I have.  I would highly recommend this store.  #supportlocalbusiness

Where can you find a great shoe repair service in Montevideo?

I regularly send my shoes to the shoe repair store on Arocena (within the small set of shops between BBVA bank and Cambio Sur).

The shoe repair shop on Arcoena has never failed to fix any problem I have presented them with, the service is excellent.  I had previously tried the shoe repair store on the outside of Portones Mall but found their prices to be more expensive and when they said they couldn't repair a pair of boots for me but the store on Arcoena was able to...I knew I had found a better store!

I would highly recommend taking your shoes (and suitcases) to this store for all your repair needs.
